What is the biblical understanding of Grace?

Grace is one of the most important concepts in the Bible, Christianity, and the world. It is most clearly expressed in the promises of God revealed in Scripture and embodied in Jesus Christ. Grace is God's unmerited favor toward man. "Unmerited” means to receive something that you did not earn or something that you do not deserve. Grace is God doing good for us that we do not deserve. In the Bible, grace and mercy are like two heads of the same coin. Mercy is God withholding judgment that I deserve; grace is God giving me blessing that I do not deserve. Ephesians 2:8

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, 9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
